Candy Bar Rhythms
2nd Graders can use words to make rhythms! In this activity, each student got to pick a candy bar name and they used ta's, ti-ti's, ta-a's and shh's (quarter notes, pairs of eighth notes, half notes and quarter rests) to make a rhythm for their candy bar.
For example:
"Hershey Bar" could be "Ti-Ti, Ta."
After each student wrote their own rhythms, they combined theirs with their groups to make a composition. Then, they sight-read and clapped their new rhythms together. They found out that mixing up the index cards makes a whole new composition!
Here are the students writing out their rhythms:
Here they are practicing with their groups:
Nice work, 2nd grade!
